Watch Foo Fighters’ Cover of Roky Erickson’s “Two Headed Dog.”

The Foo Fighters take on Roky Erickson’s psychedelic classic “Two Headed Dog (Red Temple Prayer)” to celebrate 40 years of Austin City Limits.

PBS’ live music TV show Austin City Limits is gearing up to celebrate its 40th season starting Saturday, October 4 and though they’ve already celebrated that occasion with teaser performances from Nine Inch Nails and Beck, they’ve enlisted another crew of ’90s alt-rock legends to herald the first episode. Friday, Foo Fighters shared a blitzing cover of psych-rock explorer Roky Erickson’s “Two Headed Dog.” Though the cover is a fairly faithful representation of the Erickson’s raspy original, Dave Grohl’s take offers a refreshingly freewheeling side of the Foos. If nothing else, it serves heighten anticipation for the October 17 debut of Grohl’s Sonic Highways show and the November 10 release of the album of the same name.
