Bonobo Premieres New Song ‘Return to Air’

via Billboard

Bonobo

New York City-via-U.K. producer Bonobo, a.k.a. Simon Green, is as much of an instrumentalist as he is a producer. His lush tracks are just as likely to incorporate surging orchestral strings as they are synthesized pops and clicks, and the result is an alluring mix that draws crowds to both his live band shows and his DJ tours.

Coming off of an 18-month tour set to wrap Nov. 28, Green has prepared the three-song Flashlight EP. It’s less of a transition between 2013’s North Borders — and this year’s live accompaniment to that album’s tour — and his new album as it is a farewell.

“I made this in summer 2014 during some downtime between touring,” says Green of the final song, “Return to Air.” “This was the last track I made before leaving New York and packing my studio into storage. In a way, it’s the last page of that chapter before I settle again and start the next album.”

“Return to Air” is a classically elegant Bonobo track, both (fittingly) airy and crunchy with vocal snippets intermittently slinking out from somewhere within the roiling fog of his multi-textured sounds. Though it fits within the rest of his canon, the restless clinks and ticks in the very beginning sound like he’s testing out new material and seeing how well it settles.

Paramore’s Hayley Williams and The Civil Wars’ Joy Williams Duet ‘Hate to See Your Heart Break’: Watch

Hayley Williams (left) of Paramore and Joy Williams, formerly of The Civil Wars, perform together on a version of the song "Hate To See Your Heart Break" from the deluxe version of Paramore's self-titled album.
For the deluxe reissue of Paramore‘s 2013 self-titled album (out today, Nov. 24), the band has released a music video to accompany a new version of the song “Hate to See Your Heart Break,” re-recorded with new vocals from The Civil Wars’ Joy Williams.

“When we met, I was 12 and Joy was like 18 or 19, I think,” Hayley Williams told NPR. “I was already a fan of hers. It was fate that we became friends. She was always giving great advice and listening to songs I’d written or big plans I had about becoming a real artist… I love that I got to sing this with someone who I have shared my pains and my stories with for quite some time. Someone whom I know well and who I’ve sat and listened to as they share their own pains. It was never meant as romantic song between lovers but always a song to a friend. Now it’s even more special. I think of it as an ode to sisterhood.”

Jennifer Lawrence Sings ‘The Hanging Tree’ From ‘Mockingjay’

From Huffington Post

One of the most emotional scenes in “The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1” is when Katniss Everdeen sings “The Hanging Tree,” a song she learned from her father. The ballad becomes a rallying cry for the rebels in their fight against The Capitol and spurs the revolution forward.

For Jennifer Lawrence, who plays Katniss, the performance was equally harrowing. “Jen was not happy she had to sing it all day long. She cried a little bit in the morning,” director Francis Lawrence said of the sequence during an interview with AOL BUILD.

“When I sing, I sound like a deer that has been caught in a fence,” Jennifer Lawrence joked during last weekend’s “Saturday Night Live.” In a separate interview with MTV,Lawrence said she had never sung in front of anyone before. “So that was a terrible day,” she said.

Fans can decide for themselves by listening below. Featuring music by composer James Newton Howard and an arrangment put together by The Lumineers, “The Hanging Tree” is available on the “Mockingjay – Part 1” score, out Nov. 24.
