Little Big Town Rides ‘Girl Crush’ Controversy Wave with a New Video

Back in December, country quartet Little Big Town released “Girl Crush,” the second single from their 2014 album Pain Killer.

By March, listeners were calling stations to complain about the line in which Karen Fairchild sings, “I want to taste her lips/ Yeah, ‘cause they taste like you,” reportedly upset at what they perceived to be gay content. In response, stations in Boise, Idaho and Waco, Texas pulled the song from rotation.

“It’s written like a good old country jealousy story,” Fairchild explained. “I think we’ve all felt that, where we’ve lost a relationship and been rejected and we look at, ‘What did he want that I didn’t have?’ I think it’s a really easy thing to relate to, and yet you’ve never heard it said in that way.”

Today, Little Big Town released the video for Girl Crush. The black and white video is simple, with the band performing on stage as a disco ball rotates and one lucky couple dances off camera.
