First Look At Amy Winehouse Documentary ‘Amy’

The first trailer for ‘Amy,’ the documentary about the life and career of Amy Winehouse has just been released and it is heartbreaking. A release date has yet to be specified, but the film will probably hit theaters this summer.

In the trailer for Amy, we get to hear straight from Amy about what singing meant to her and how she felt about fame.

“Singing has always been important to me, but I never thought I would be a singer.”

The documentary will depict Amy’s early years, as well as the start of her musical career and her eventual rise to catastrophic fame.

“I don’t think I’m going to be at all famous,” she says in the film. “I don’t think I could handle it– I would probably go mad,” she adds.

The documentary director Asif Kapadia and producer James Gay-Rees shared the meaning behind the project.

“Amy was a once-in-a-generation talent who captured everyone’s attention; she wrote and sung from the heart and everyone fell under her spell,” the statement said. “But tragically Amy seemed to fall apart under the relentless media attention, her troubled relationships, her global success and her precarious lifestyle. As a society we celebrated her huge success but then we were quick to judge her failings when it suited us.”
