New Orleans Jazz Fest reveals 2015 lineup

 

The New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival has revealed its 2015 lineup. Elton John, The Who, Tony Bennett and Lady Gaga, and No Doubt are among this year’s headlining acts. They’ll be joined by other notable artists including Wilco, Ryan Adams, Widespread Panic, Buddy Guy, Jimmy Cliff, and Steve Winwood.

Also playing at the festival are John Legend, Jimmy Buffett, Hozier, Trombone Shorty, Dr. John, Tedeschi Trucks Band, Alison Krauss & Union Station, Kacey Musgraves, Aaron Neville, Ivan Neville’s Dumpstaphunk, Kermit Ruffins, The Blind Boys of Alabama, Jimmy Vaughn, Preservation Hall Jazz Band, Galactic featuring Macy Gray, Allen Toussaint, Irma Thomas, The Meters featuring Art Neville, Leo Nocentelli, George Porter Jr., and Joseph “Zigaboo” Modeliste, Chicago, Ed Sheeran, Jerry Lee Lewis, The O’Jays, Estelle, Irvin Mayfield, The Word, Anders Osborne, and Shovels & Rope.

Jazz Fest takes place over the course of two weekends (April 24th – 26th and April 30th – May 3rd) at New Orleans’ City Park. Tickets to both weekends are available beginning Tuesday, January 13th through the festival’s website.

This Day in Music History — September 26

1975 : The Rocky Horror Picture Show opens in Westwood, California. Featuring a young Meat Loaf along with Tim Curry and Susan Sarandon, the movie tanks but later becomes a cult classic, with audience members shouting back at the screen and bringing toast, toilet paper, and other assorted items to enhance the viewing experience.

1992 : Gloria Estefan headlines a show featuring Paul Simon, Crosby, Stills & Nash and Jimmy Buffett at a Miami concert to raise money for Hurricane Andrew relief.

2008 : In some very unshocking news, Clay Aiken announces that he is gay in People magazine, saying: “It was the first decision I made as a father. I cannot raise a child to lie or to hide things. I wasn’t raised that way, and I’m not going to raise a child to do that.”

2012 : Artist Pink, aka “P!nk,” scores her first #1 album on Billboard’s album charts with The Truth About Love. The album had sold 280,000 copies at the time.

This Day in Music History — August 25

1970 : Jimi Hendrix opens Electric Ladyland Studios in New York City. He dies a few months later, but the studio lives on, with many major acts recording there over the years.

1970 : Elton John plays his first live show in the United States, opening for David Ackles at The Troubadour in Los Angeles. It’s the first show of a 17-night run in which Quincy Jones and Leon Russell see him perform. Elton gets great reviews and a big career boost in America.

1994 : Jimmy Buffett crashes his seaplane while trying to take off in Nantucket. He swims to safety.

1994 : Billy Joel is officially divorced from model Christie Brinkley. Their marriage lasted nine years.

2009 : Chris Brown is sentenced to five years probation and six months hard labor for beating Rihanna when he was arrested for the assault earlier in February 2009, the night of the Grammy awards. He and Rihanna, who had been dating, were in Los Angeles for the event. Chris Brown is also ordered to stay away from her for the next five years. He is also ordered to undergo a full year of domestic violence counseling. According to the Associated Press, the sentencing judge told Brown that he could be sent to state prison if he violated any terms of the sentence.
